Barsoom is the 4th Planet in a yellow dwarf star system located in Wurgalan/Bosphuraq space and is currently occupied by the Wurgalan after the Bosphuraq seized it from the Kristang. It currently has a small Military outpost and a Habitation dome that covers an Elder site. Barsoom has less gravity than Earth and is currently uninhabitable without sealed and pressurized buildings. This is because its atmosphere is extremely thin. Unlike similar planets like Mars, Barsoom has a strong magnetic field that helps repel solar wind particles that could slowly strip away an atmosphere. Joe Bishop chooses the name because, in the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel John Carter of Mars, the local residents of Mars call it Barsoom. |
History[]Millions of years ago, Barsoom had a pleasant climate with abundant life. Oceans covered half of the surface. It was also home to many large Elder facilities. 90-130 Million years ago while the Elders still inhabited the galaxy, Barsoom was subjected to a massive focused solar flare (Technology that is only currently available to a Sentinel) that stripped away most of the atmosphere. At about the same time, large segments of the surface where Elder sites were located were scooped into another dimension. Following that, any remnants were obliterated by Relativistic Impactors. Roughly one hundred million years later Barsoom was discovered by the Maxolhx and all Elder devices of note were salvaged. However, the star system was not colonized because of its distance from the Wormhole Network. When the network shifted, the Kristang took control of the system. Later, during a dispute between the Thuranin and the Bosphuraq, the Kristang were persuaded to give up the system by the means of 3 Bosphuraq Battleships. |
