The Space Elevator was placed on top of Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador. The space elevator on Earth was provided by the Thuranin to the Kristang to transport troops to orbit. The space elevator is a no-frills contraption, designed to transport a maximum number of troops in a minimum amount of time.

Base Station[]The main base station was constructed on the top of Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador, It was built in less than a month once the UN agreed to provide troops to the Kristang. The reason it was built there was because it "straddles" the equator. The base station contains the main fusion reactor. The Fusion reactor powers the entire elevator. |
Transit[]Transit is undertaken in a disc shaped elevator car, it is described to be like a waiting lounge in an airport but with four levels.
The Habitable levels were divided up and contained rows of thinly padded chairs. Each of the chairs had a seatbelt, it's noted that the Kristang weren't big on comfort on this journey, It was designed for the maximum number of troops in the smallest time and had a capacity of 5,000 troops. The elevator car is equipped with defense lasers.[1] The transit takes about nine hours to complete. |
In Space[]Thousands of miles above the base station there is a space station in a geosynchronous orbit. Joe Bishop describes the first thing he notice about the space elevator was a ribbon of white light. The two parts of the station were only connected by a thin magnetic field, in contrast the Ruhar space elevator uses a hair thick cable. Under the Kristang's orders, weapons were not allowed on the elevator. The space station had artificial gravity which worked at roughly 85% of normal. It was constructed quickly as the Thuranin transported it in sections. |
