Jeremy Smythe is an elite British Army Special Air Service (SAS) soldier. Initially leads Merry Band of Pirates strike teams and then created the Special Tactics Assault Regiment (STAR team). Smythe was severely injured during the Armageddon mission to acquire Vacuum Power Modules (VPMs). He lost both legs below the knee. He tells Skippy the Magnificent that rather than regrowing his legs, he be given mechanical legs instead. During his recovery, Major Kapoor took temporary command of the STAR team. Smythe eventually had his legs regrown and continued to lead ST-Alpha. He has been certified crazy by Colonel Joseph Bishop. In Failure Mode, Smythe leads the star team in the effort to retrieve an elder starship. The effort is successful, but he is critically wounded in action. He succumbs to his injuries minutes after returning to Valkyrie.
