The Merry Band of Pirates stole a Panther because they needed it to perform a raid on an ultra-secure Maxolhx facility that produced pixies. The Pirates acquired many more Panthers when they captured most of 2 Maxolhx Extinction-class battlescruisers and a heavy cruiser. The Pirates currently have 18 Panthers for use aboard the Dutchman.
