He was an original member of the Merry Band of Pirates, recruited by Col. Joseph Bishop. He volunteered for the Pirates because he was bored and it gave him the chance to see some action. He lead the team that captured the Kristang frigate, "Heavenly Morning Flower of Glorious Victory" (which was renamed The Flower). Giraud was also an original member of the STAR team aboard the Flying Dutchman. Giraud was killed on a mission to obtain new VPMs at an automated Maxolhx supply base. The station turned out to have a Maxolhx crew performing maintenance and the Pirates were ambushed and suffered a devastating defeat, resulting in the death of Giraud, Fal Desai, most of the STAR team and severe injuries to Margaret Adams and Jeremy Smythe.
