Roach Motel

Also referred to as Hotel California.

A star system where ships enter but do not leave, hence the name. It is protected by a stealth field that disguises what is inside, a powerful damping field that prevents any ship from jumping out, and Guardians: powerful AI ships built by Elders to guard the system.

The Guardians sheer ships apart as soon as they enter the star system, disabling or destroying them entirely in the process. There is a vast spaceship graveyard due to this.

There is a dead Sentinel in the system that Skippy the Magnificent and Colonel Joseph Bishop travel into to locate an Elder Conduit device that Skippy can use to help him destroy the worm trying to kill him.

The star in the system has an estimated twenty two Elder power sinks in its photoshpere, seven of which Skippy had detected. The power sinks draw power from the magnetic field of the star. Four of these power sinks are used to power the stealth field around the star system, the remaining sinks are used to power the Galactic Shield.

In order to extend the life of the star, long ago, a Neptune-sized gas giant that used to orbit in the system's Kuiper Belt, was moved close to the star to replenish the hydrogen consumed during the natural fusion in the star.

The system has been visited many times by a number of Tier 1 and Tier 2 species, like the Maxolhx and Thuranin over tens of thousands of years.
