The Ruhar are a client species of the Jeraptha. They were the first alien species seen by the Humans on Earth. They appear first in Columbus Day.

Earth is on the outermost reaches of Ruhar territory. Without using wormholes, it takes five weeks to travel to Earth. The Ruhar are the de facto patrons of the Verd-kris.

They are called "hamsters" by humans and "callaras" by the Verd-kris.

They are in charge of operations for the Alien Legion and provide operational support for the Legion.

Biology[]

Hamster-like species.

Ruhar females can control their ovulation mentally, Chief Administrator of Gehtanu, Baturnah Logellia, thinks about this when the Ruhar federal government talk about sterilization of Humans on Gehtanu (Paradise).

History[]

The Ruhar were discovered by their patron species the Jeraptha after they had finished colonizing the first planet in their home system. On the colony world, the Ruhar located a functional Elder power tap, which they gave to the Jeraptha in exchange for assistance in colonizing a second world. Because of the existing rivalries of the Jeraptha, the Ruhar inherited the conflict with the Kristang.

Culture[]

The Ruhar detest the idea of killing animals for food, this stopped humans on Gehtanu from slaughtering animals for food. They grow meat based food but have computers which play the role of the nervous system as demonstrated by Lester Cornhut when talking to Joseph Bishop.

Technology[]

The Ruhar use maser rifles in combat instead of projectile based weaponry.

The Ruhar have a number of technological advantages over the Kristang such as jump technology range.

The Ruhar have the ability to synthesize food compatible with human digestive systems.

Time Measurement[]

An acton is a measurement of time, similar to one Earth second, used by the Ruhar. An acton is equivalent to about 0.8 seconds. Therefore, twenty actons is equivalent to about sixteen seconds.

Military[]

The Ruhar are more advanced than, and possess several advantages over their rivals, the Kristang.
Ruhar Infantry
Infantry equipment includes advanced rifles that can fire powerful masers or railgun darts instead of traditional propellant ammunition used by the Kristang. Instead of the armored suits used by the Kristang, Ruhar infantry use a skin suit that conforms to the user. The skin suit has the ability to change color, absorb body heat from the user, and display combat information to the soldier inside. Additionally, the suit has a limited ability to reflect enemy maser energy by becoming completely reflective and ablating material from the outside of the suit. These technological advantages come with the drawback of less armor than their Kristang equivalents, as well as less powerful suit motors for assisting the operator.

Beverages[]

Slurm[]

is a fizzy yellow soft drink provided aboard some Ruhar naval starships. It is reputed to be of no nutritional value to either Ruhar or Humans, and detrimental to neither. Excessive slurm consumption could induce burping in Ruhar. The drink seemingly does not look appealing to Humans presented with it.[1] It is unknown if slurm is the Ruhar federal government's generic production of a type of beverage, or under a brand name by a private entity and simply stocked aboard government vessels.

Elders
The Elders were an ancient race that disappeared from the Milky Way millions of years ago. Skippy the Magnificent believed they ascended to a higher level of existence. Skippy was able to defeat them when they returned.
Human Coalition
Humans
Humans on Earth, Avalon & Jiyayuguan (Club Skippy/Jaguar) currently have no specific patrons or clients, but have achieved alliances with two species to whom they provide support. The humans on Paradise, though not technically clients of the Ruhar, must abide and are subject to Ruhar legal tenets. The Urgar are not technically a Client species, but are under the Human's protection.
